Note From a Visitor of the AGS Show (names removed to protect identity)

I would just like to pass on to you and all the others at the Midwest show how much I enjoyed seeing all of your gerbils and meeting all of
you. I had been toying with the idea of joining AGS for a while, and I probably will now that I've had a chance to see what goes on at the
shows - both educational and fun!

Posted from the AGS Yahoo Group Site by Donna:

The knitted gerbils and guinea pigs were wonderful! It was so nice to have plenty of prizes for raffle, the major contests/recognitions, and the little ones for pet class and bingo. I on the furry white guinea pig from the raffle and also the giant chinchilla run around ball. I put him in the ball and had him "running" around my room. That and the
collage of my gerbils I made before I left made me feel a little better about being surrounded by all of the gerbil cuteness without being able to bring any (live) critters home with me.

The ones that had coloring of actual gerbils were the most popular, e..g. the tan with black tail "siamese" - are any mottles on the horizon?

Thank you so much!! Also, very nice were the grab bags tied up with ribbons that (little) Ruth and Caroline put together for prizes (some of which had little knitted gerbils popping out of the bag).

It was wonderful in this show that people had an idea and brought every thing and set it up - not only did it lighten the load, there were so many nice surprises. Things like the official AGS name tags and gerbil dos and dont's exhibit plus playground to draw in the crowd that Elaine did and all the gerbil background materials that Ruth has collected and the obstacle course Jo thought up (she really can get inside the mind of a gerbil!!) The snowflake chew worked really well because so many people were willing to give it a try and the gerbils were naturals.

One cute moment where went two boys from the public were talking with Jo and I asked them if they wanted to fold a snowflake. When we told them now a gerbil was going to gnaw it they looked a little skeptical. And then when I pointed to the snow flake exhibit from the night before, they couldn't believe "Gerbils did that!!"

I encourage others to think up exhibits or activities to bring to future shows, test run with gerbils at home, and set up themselves. Seeing new ways to appreciate the artistic, athletic, and intelligent (in addition to beautiful) side of the gerbils was a really fun part of this show. And having so many people take on a piece made for a relaxing time for everyone.

Speaking of that we had a record number of seven judges particpate!! I mainly watched, stepping in where needed. We all gave a hand at Best in Show, which you would think woule be much harder by Angela's picture of "how many judges..." looking like we are playing a game of musical gerbils -- but with that many critical eyes it went fast. With so many judges I had plenty of time to do pet class (with the help of Kenny and Jessica) and take many pictures too. Stay tuned for my favorite picture of "Gerbils over Tulsa" - a pyramid of Ruth (now Jessica's) rescue girls sleeping in the morning sun with the city through the big glass windows behind them.

I am already counting down the days to MD show (just over 3 months!) and calculating the miles to Nebraska (one potential MW 2009 show site).
