In This Cage Where We Live by Judith H. Block (Apologies to Lerner and Lowe, "On The Street Where We Live" from My Fair Lady) Eeeks, our wheel does squeek, how it bothers me! Round and round you go all night, When I am trying to sleep. Please give me a turn, I've energy to burn! Having fun, in this cage where we live! Chewing cardboard tubes, jumping up and down; Eating grains, then on the wheel again, Going round and round. Let the time go by, I don't care since I'm Having fun in this cage where we live. And oh, that wonderful feeling, When our wheel is finally oiled! That overpowering feeling, Going faster, faster, faster, It's such fun!!!! People come and stare, They don't bother me, For I know that they think gerbils Are such fun to see! Let the cat go by, I don't care since I Know we're safe In this cage, where we live!
