Babysitting Gerbils by Kim of Midnight Sun Rodentry Squeak, Squeak, Squeak, goes the wheel Gerbils impatiently waiting for their next meal Don't feed them (sunflower) seeds, they tend to get fat You don't want them mopey like a lazy old rat Constantly waiting, curious creatures With extra long legs and hilarious features A tail too long and nose too flat Ears that look like a little fruit bats Gerbils resting in their bed One tries to peek out his head His head is now strung on a wire His once frantic kicks begin to tire Heroically I unstick his fur If he were a dog, he would "grr" After falling to the ground He begins to run round and round Thumping his feet in a frantic fright He quickly looks up into the light Sniffing his friends as he slowly thumps his feet He calms down and slowly, Falls asleep. Babysitting pets for a friend The excitement of gerbils will never end That night a lesson I frightfully learned To watch these creatures at every turn. (c) September 2004
